It's all scratched to hell. I guess having a toddler leads to that. It even has a chip in the screen. We bought it about two years ago refurbished, and other than cosmetic issues, it's been good. The IR sensor went out and I still need to replace that, but other than that it's fine. It's a 42" Vizio Smart TV. 3D and Wi-Fi. We paid something like $419 for it. Still stinks that it looks so rough though. But a new one isn't in the budget for awhile.

I wonder if something like headlight polish would clean it up. No experience, just thinking out loud.

When you get your next TV, mount that bad boy on the wall away from kids.

If there's no anti-glare coating you can clean that up with a fine plastic polish assuming it's a plastic screen. If there is, you're boned (unless you want to work the whole screen and remove the coating which is is probably way more trouble than it's worth.)

I used this stuff to clean up a scratched to hell monitor I was given at work:

Like any polishing job, use at risk and start in the most unnoticeable place, if it doesn't work you end up with a nasty haze that's worse than what you started with.

Can confirm, my TV is wall mounted. Roommate hasn't scuffed it yet.

Believe me, I plan on it.

I was perfectly satisfied with our top-of-the-line Sony XBR 37" (but a dumb TV). Then a text from the spouse-equivalent: "do you want a free TV?" I figured, OK, if it's a little one we can give it to the building staff, they needed a better one. Then they deliver a 5 year old 42" Pioneer Kuro plasma TV. I hook it up - amazing reds and greens, so much better than LCD. I do a little research - it turns out they stopped making them a while back, and there's a cult around this thing that bemoans that fact.

I love it when her boss redecorates.

Supposed to work well, I've never used it though...

Should have said: we do not have a toddler, and the cats ignore the TV. And the monitor hooked to this computer is a Vizio 24" TV. More or less the same cost as a decent monitor, so why not? And Vizio makes a great product.

The other thing about the plasma - it uses more power, and it runs hotter than the LCD. But this season, I was able to watch the Jets lose in the highest possible definition.
